Rowing Australia is pleased to announce that Taylor McCarthy-Smith (Brisbane & GPS/QLD) will be travelling to Vanuatu in the New Year in a bid to qualify Australia a berth in the Junior Women’s Single Scull at the 2018 Buenos Aires Youth Olympic Games.
McCarthy-Smith, who earlier this year represented Australia in the Junior Women’s Double Scull at the 2017 Junior World Rowing Championships, will travel to Vanuatu, with coach Ben Southwell, to compete in the FISA Oceania Continental Qualification Regatta on 22 and 23 January 2018.
Australia has already qualified a Junior Men’s Single Scull for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games by virtue of winning a gold in the Junior Men’s Double Scull at this year’s Junior World Rowing Championships. McCarthy-Smith will need a top place finish in the regatta to secure Australia a berth at the 2018 YOG.
Selection for qualified boats for the 2018 Youth Olympic Games will take place in April 2018.
